Directory Websites
Webpages on a database driven site are generated as and when users browse or search through the site. The look and feel of the site (the front end) can be designed to your specification.
If you are interested in data-base driven sites, you may also like to view our page on content management systems (CMS). Even if you don't have a large amount of data to manage CMS sites can be a very efficient way to build a website – many blogs are CMS sites, such as Wordpress and Joomla.

Database driven websites – two examples
The following two websites are examples of directory sites (otherwise known as database driven sites). These websites, Hudson's Historic Houses and Chipping-Campden.net contain a large amount of data in the form of links to other sites, information and listings.
The website for hudsonsguide.co.uk supports the annual printed directory which publishes the opening times,
admission prices and details of the majority of the historic houses
and gardens open to the public in the UK.
chipping-campden.net was developed to help visitors, business owners and residents of Chipping
Campden in Gloucestershire. It provides details of what to do, where
to stay and a listing of local businesses. The site is powered by an
off-the-shelf database which was customised to integrate with the site
design.
